For a large swathe of companies, blockchain remains an exotic fruit. According to a Gartner study, only 1 per cent of Chief Information Officers (CIOs) said that they had any kind of blockchain adaptation in their organizations, and only 8 per cent said that they were in short-term planning or active experimentation with the technology. Almost 80 per cent of CIOs said they had no interest in the technology.
Microsoft remains upbeat even though that could mean bad news for makers of blockchain software and services. “We see tremendous momentum and progress in the enterprise blockchain marketplace,” the company said in a statement. “We remain committed to developing cutting-edge technology and working side-by-side with industry leaders to ensure business of all types realize this value.”
Brian Behlendorf, executive director of Hyperledger, an open source collaborative effort created to advance cross-industry blockchain technologies, said companies want to see other people fail first as they do not want to be a guinea pig. They do not want to be the first to deploy new technology and the first to run into problems.
