4 Steps to MDM Success

I recently came across an article written by Dave Sobel, the Director of Partner Community at Level Platforms. Inn his article, Sobel offers good advice to MSPs about one of the hottest trends happening in the channel today, which is directly related to the BYOD phenomena.  According to a recent Deloitte study, 82% of smartphone and tablet users are now using their personal devices for business, too. A recent Cisco partner study puts this number at 90%. The bottom line is that this is a huge opportunity for IT service providers to help their customers with the host of challenges that go along with managing a myriad of mobile devices.

Many MSPs make the mistake of treating MDM (mobile device management) as a loss leader. Sobel strongly advises against this, adding that MSPs should not differentiate MDM fees from other IT assets. “The fact is the device plays a key role in a worker’s productivity, and if it’s not managed properly, it can become a source of lost revenue, stolen intellectual property, or even hefty fines in the case of a HIPAA violation,” he says.

Sobel also challenges service providers offering MDM services to keep in mind the lifecycle of customers’ BYOD smartphones and tablets, including: enrollment and provisioning, day-to-day management, and end-of-life management.
